About Central Laboratory for Aquaculture Research
CLAR Started as an Aquaculture Project that grew out of an agreement between the Egyptian government and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), On September 7, 1978, an agreement was signed between USAID and The Government of Egypt to participate in this project. CLAR joined the Agricultural Research Center on November 12, 1991 and is now firmly established as the most important National center for aquaculture research. CLAR mission is to design and carry out the research strategy for sustainable development of Aquaculture and Fisheries in Egypt, in accordance with the National Agricultural Strategy of the country and integration with animal and plant production.

Globally, more than one billion poor people obtain most of their animal protein from fish and 800 million depend on fisheries and aquaculture for their livelihoods. WorldFish is a member of CGIAR, a global research partnership for a food-secure future. Its science is carried out by the 15 research Centers that are members of the CGIAR Consortium in collaboration with hundreds of partners.
